Forte di Bard. Valle d’Aosta

The Forte di Bard is a fortified complex built in the 19th century by the House of Savoy on a rocky prominence above Bard, a town at the gateway of the Aosta Valley region of northwestern Italy.

Lunches

On Tuesday July 9th and Wednesday July 10th there will be the possibility to have lunch directly at the workshop location (~25€/person each meal), upon reservation.
 
Please specify if you plan to take advantage of the catering service while registering to the conference.
Note that your answer will be used to set up the meals accordingly.
Reserved meals will have to be paid even if not consumed.
 
Note that descending from Forte di Bard to the Bard village, where additional dining options are available takes around 20 minutes.

Social dinner

The social dinner will take place at the Fort’s restaurant “La Polveriera” (~45€/person) on Tuesday 9th evening.

Bus transfer from Torino

We will arrange a free shuttle bus from Torino to Bard for Monday 8th in the morning, for participants who wish to use it (limited availability).
 
The bus will stop at:
  • Torino Porta Nuova railway station – 12:15. 
    The meeting point is in Piazza Carlo Felice, the square in front of the railway station.
    When you exit the station on your right, in front of Decathlon (here).
  • Torino Porta Susa railway station – 12:30.
    The meeting point is in Corso Bolzano at entrance/exit B (here).
 
Another shuttle bus is scheduled for the early afternoon (14:00) of Wednesday 10th, from Bard to Torino.

How to get there

By train
The nearest train station is Hône-Bard, 600 meters from the Fort.
From January 3rd 2024 to December 31st 2026 a replacement bus service is active for the electrification works on the Ivrea-Aosta line.
It is thus necessary to take the train from Torino to Ivrea and then the bus, getting off at Hone-Bard.
 
By car
The Forte di Bard is located at the gateway of the Aosta Valley, 48 km from Aosta and 78 km from Torino, halfway between Milano and Geneva. Bard is accessible by car through the SS. 26 of the Aosta Valley and the A5 motorway, with exit at the Pont-Saint-Martin toll booths to the south and Verrès to the north, 6 and 9 km away.

By bus
Local transport lines:
To move between the towns of the Aosta Valley there is a public bus.
In particular, the route between Pont Saint-Martin and Aosta stops in Bard and runs approximately every half hour, until just before 10pm.

The nearest airport is Torino Caselle, about 60 km away.
